Roosevelt Island Greenway Description

Roosevelt Island Greenway, a little-known gem in the Big Apple, was named after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1973. To reach this scenic pathway, board New York City’s only aerial tram, rising 250 feet above the East River. It offers stellar Manhattan skyline views before dipping down towards Roosevelt Island.

The greenway is a flat 3.8-mile loop around the island and under the hulking Queensboro Bridge. The paved trail winds through Lighthouse Park and Southpoint Park, home to the ruins of a historic small pox hospital that today is surrounded by manicured gardens.

Parking and Trail Access

Take the Roosevelt Island Tram to reach the trail. In Manhattan, you can pick up the Tram at 2nd Avenue and E. 60th Street.
